Series Review
Feisty Female Thai Hero Not on Game!
Kudos to Colin Cotterill for creating a young Thai female mystery hero who is feisty, funny, ingenious, loving, tough and not on the game. Yuppie Jimm Juree, the heroine of the three mystery books in the Jimm Juree Mysteries, had to leave her career on the crime beat of a big-city newspaper when her mother moved their extended family to the boonies to run a ramshackle motel on the beach.
Imagine an English village mystery, but set in rural southern Thailand where most of the cops are corrupt and the local aristocrat is a village headman who likes to play dress up.
“I wanted to go to an English-speaking country but they were all full so they sent me to Australia,” Jimm says of the year she spent studying abroad. “By the time I’d worked out what they were saying it was time to come home.”
Highly recommended to fans of cozies, funny female heroes, heartwarming, funny family stories, and everyone looking for an entertaining story in an exotic setting
This new cozy series, written by author Colin Cotterill, whose Dr. Siri Paiboun Mystery Books is one of my all-time favorite series, is off to a promising start. It's wonderfully funny, the hero, almost-award-winning reporter Jimm Juree, is entirely loveable and the mysteries are engaging, as is the context.
Series Guide
Begin at the beginning. There's all kinds of great stuff about Jimm's crazy family and her new neighbors in Killed at the Whim of a Hat (#1) that you will not want to miss!!
