Millennium Trilogy Thrillers
The Author Who Ruled the Bestseller Lists
Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) is the author of the Millennium Trilogy Thrillers, a series of three thrillers, which was published after his death in 2004. By 2010, the thrillers had sold 27 million copies in 40 countries.

Larsson, a journalist and left-wing activist in his youth, founded the Swedish Expo Foundation and edited its magazine, Expo. Expo's purpose was to document right-wing political activity with the aim of curtailing it.  He faced serious threats of violence from those he campaigned against. When investigating the murder of a labor leader by neo-Nazis, the police found information about Larsson in the murderer's apartment.

Larsson wrote in Swedish. The second book in the series, The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium Trilogy Thrillers #2), has the same title in the Swedish and English publications. But the titles of the other books are strikingly different: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Trilogy Thrillers #1) was "Men who hate women" and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium Trilogy Thrillers #3) was "The Air Castle that Blew Up."

Larsson died of a heart attack at age 50. Rumors that he was a victim of foul play have been denied.

When Larsson died, he had finished writing three novels. He is said to have finished three-quarters of a fourth novel and left extensive notes for several more.

Larsson, an avid science fiction fan, was the chairman of the Scandinavian science fiction society.

He lived with his life-partner, Eva Gabrielsson, whom he met at an anti-Vietnam War rally when he was 18.
